Summer Games Day 2025

We hosted our inaugural Summer Games Day in COG grounds on Friday 20 June 2025, in beautifully sunny, warm weather. Children were invited along with their grown-ups, for a fun morning of active games.
The event was hosted, with support from COG staff, by our wonderful Apprentice practitioner, Evie, and her personal trainer Dad, Will, who has been volunteering at COG for some time now, putting the children through their paces with fun 'toddler-style circuits' to build their strength, co-ordination, confidence and so many other skills that being active helps children to develop. Evie and Will began with a stretching warm-up, which children and grown-ups all joined in with, then it was off to try out the different activities.
The children were each given a card with space to collect up to 5 stamps. Once they had selected and tried out 5 activities they were awarded a medal and prize. Activities on offer included a ladder run, sack races, egg and spoon, hook-a-duck, obstacle course and parachute games to finish.
We had lots of shade under the trees and in Forest School, where there was a woodland treasure hunt, in which children explored the woods to find numbered pictures hanging in the trees. Cirencester's Children's Librarian, Lisa, joined us for story time here too. There were craft areas where children could take a break and be creative, ice blocks with small toys frozen into them, which children could explore and get out of the ice as it melted. This helped keep everyone cool on this very warm day. Children accessed the sandpit too where they played in the warm sand, digging and filling their buckets.
A very sporty snack of orange pieces was served under the gazebo, followed by a picnic lunch before it was time to head home for an afternoon nap!
Thank-you to all COG staff and volunteers for making the day such a success but most of all to families for joining in and getting involved, making happy memories for the children. We all had lots of fun at what may become an annual COG event!
