Stephen Makin father of Benedict (pictured above) will be doing the Ironman event in aid of Cirencester Opportunity Group on 7 September 2008. He will be doing a 2.4-mile swim, a 113.2 mile cycle and 26.2 mile run all in under 17 hours. Stephen is doing this in recognition of the support that the Group has given to Ben who was born at just 24 weeks weighing only 710 g (less than the weight of a loaf of bread!) Initially he only had a 20% chance of survival but is now a happy and bouncy boy of three who loves life and play.
As Stephen says: "Ben has blossomed at the Opportunity Group, the relaxed and caring environment has been key to his development, and learning through play essential to his education and confidence."
There will be a sponsorship form displayed in our lobby so please sign up to sponsor Stephen. The training is gruelling and particularly as Stephen describes himself as "a 46 year old who loves beer and good food". Please sign up – every little helps so it doesn’t have to be a big amount.
Alternatively, you can donate now online.
